I will target most things that swim but lure fishing for Saltwater Barra take up most of my time followed by chasing Tuskfish on Fly, fishing Topwater and Jigging the Great Barrier Reef filling in the rest when the weather decides to play the game. In my eyes Humminbird are a super versatile unit with technology advancing year by year. Between Mega 360, Mega Side and Down Imaging and the ability to now run Airmar 2D transducers, Humminbird has all your bases covered. Whether I'm fishing for Barra in the creeks or 100km offshore on the GBR, I believe I get the best of both worlds when using my Solix G2. The definition and clarity of Mega Imaging is second to none and cuts out all your guess work when looking for particular species or structure to fish. This was a main key to winning the Barra Nationals in 2018 with Karim, Griffo and myself being able to spot fish in sand whoops and rock bars others units would struggle to see. With the addition of a Minn Kota Terrova i-Pilot Link and Airmar Transducer on my boat, I'm excited to see where my fishing will take me over the next 12 months! Mega 360 next!

I have been fortunate to have fished all over the world in a host of different environments at various levels of the sport. From arduous full time commercial fishing, high end tournaments in the salt fresh and overseas arenas to the local recreational fishing venues. I fish for just about everything that I can access from the freshwater dams chasing bass to barra the creeks chasing grunter to flathead and the offshore reefs of the southern great barrier reef chasing GTs to coral trout. I utilize my multi species 5m vessel to its fullest potential and my Hummninbird units continue to provide me the very best in sonar technology across all of these waterways as they have done for the past 20 years. While the Minn kota range of electric motors allow me the stealth to target flats species in a couple of feet of water one day and spot lock pin point accuracy while bottom fishing for a host of reef species the next. I rely heavily on both of these products and really put them through their paces.

Chasing giant Murray cod is a game of one percent opportunities and I have spent the last 30 years honing my skills and equipment to a point that you win more often than you loose. My electronics as in Huminbird and Minn Kota provide me the angling edge that puts plenty of big fish in the boat every season.

All of my fishing involves artificial lures like soft baits and jigs for various species including snapper and yellowtail kingfish. The kayaks stealth combined with top end sonar capabilities has provided some of the most exciting fishing especially with modern tackle like micro jigs. The capabilities of the Helix 10 mega plus has taken this even further and allowed for active hunting of fish. The detail, accuracy and clarity on screen has even allowed for targeting individual fish. Being able to watch what’s happening with the lure live provides me with an insight like never before. I know when a fish is about to strike which gives the edge with hooking it. This has also allowed for new techniques to be developed in both salt and fresh water. The down imaging feature gives a three dimensional view and provides a true representation of what’s below. In the shallows mega plus side imaging shows the sea floor in amazing detail and allows fish to be located easily. The capabilities packed into the powerful Humminbird Helix 10 has meant its an essential tool in my fishing arsenal.

I have fished pretty much my whole life starting at age 3. Growing up on the Murray river helped with my passion and with my working life I have been fortunate to have fished a wide range of species both local and overseas. I started fishing tournaments about 14 years ago especially the Kayak scene and have done ok and even representing my country a number of times. I enjoy all types of fishing but my lure/fly fishing appeals the most.

I am running two units at the moment a Helix 9 mega G3 on my Hobie PA 14 Kayak and find this is an ideal sized unit for it and on my smaller Hobie Compass I have a Helix 7 mega G3 which again is perfectly suited. Both these unit provide everything I need on the water.

I am a freelance writer and photographer who lives in the South West of Victoria. I partake in a wide variety of angling techniques. I love casting to kingfish and tuna out of small boats. I do a lot of river and lake fishing for big South-West trout. I also do a lot of estuary light-line lure fishing for mulloway, estuary perch and bream. Most of these activities wouldn't be possible without the stealth and flexibility offered to me by my Minn-Kota electric motor. Combined with Humminbird sounder technology which takes much of the guess work out of what's going on under the water. It allows you to cover more water, quickly when searching for fish/structure or alternatively helps you focus on/or get back to a prime area or location.
